Steven Jackson Wants His Money
St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson is regarded as one of the best backs in the league today but he’s still playing off of his $7 million rookie contract he signed way back in July 2004. As one of the best in the league it’s no surprise he wants to be paid like one of the best.
“I think I’ve been a good person on and off the field,” Jackson said Saturday at Rams minicamp, “so I expect to be rewarded.”
Jackson deserves a new contract but there’s no way the Rams will show him the money until he proves he can stay healthy for an entire season. Everyone knows he has a ton of talent but he still hasn’t proved much on the field.
If he wants the big bucks, consistency is key.

I think you just nailed it. It is great that he is one of the top talents in the league, and I regarded him as the best back in the league coming into last season. But until he shows the Rams can stay healthy, he is going to have to wait.
I definitely agree. Jackson does deserve a high paying contract, but only when he’s proven himself completely. He didn’t make it through the season yet he still put up 1,000 yards. If he makes it through ‘08 without injury, I see the Rams not wasting anytime in resigning him once he goes free agent, if not giving him the Franchise Tag.
