Gumbel Leaves NFL Network
After just 2 years of calling games for the NFL Network, Bryant Gumbel has decided to leave the channel and focus on his job as the host of HBO’s “Real Sports”.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me,” said Mr. Gumbel. “But we’ve agreed that we’d all be better served going in different directions. There are a lot of talented people at NFL Network. I thank them, I wish them well, and I have no doubt that they will be very successful going forward.”
Once Gumbel went public with his decision the NFL Network released the following statement:
“We appreciate everything Bryant did in helping us launch our NFL Network game telecasts,” NFL Network President/CEO Steve Bornstein said in a statement. “Bryant helped create interest in our first foray into televising NFL regular-season games.”
For the past 2 seasons I’ve thought Gumbel has been a horrible play-by-play announcer so I’m obviously very happy to hear this news. His play-by-play was always boring and he rarely showed any passion for the games he was covering.
Thanks for leaving Gumbel, you won’t be missed.

I for one will miss Bryant Bumble and will have to respectfully disagree. I know that it was fun for me and others to try to imitate his monotone, barely audible delivery.
Oh well, here’s to hoping Matt Millen comes back as an analyst sometime soon (for the sake of Lions fans).
I’m glad he’s leaving. He is a terrible announcer and adds nothing to the game. Now if we can only get rid of Cris Collingsworth.
