Falcons Name New Head Coach
The Atlanta Falcons have named Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Smith as their new head coach.
“I’m thrilled and excited,” Smith, the first time head coach said in a statement. “My goal is to build a well-disciplined, hard-nosed football team that will be able to run the football on offense and stop the run on defense.”
There’s no doubt Smith is a great defensive coordinator but I think he’s the wrong guy for the Falcons. Atlanta needs a hard-nosed coach who will demand respect when he walks into the locker room.
They should have waited until after the Super Bowl and went after Giants D-coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Personally, I think he’s a better coach than Smith and a much better fit for the immature Falcons’ players.
