Cardinals Place Leinart on IR
The Arizona Cardinals have placed quarterback Matt Leinart on injured reserve due to a broken collarbone, ending his 2007 season.
“We didn’t want to rush him back,” Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “To hold a roster spot for that long is difficult, with some of the areas we are banged, with the hope he can get back in time. I am more concerned about him trying to rush back and maybe jeopardize his future.”
The Cardinals want to give Leinart the time to heal properly.
“Whenever you have a fracture there will be six weeks or however long it takes to heal,” Whisenhunt said, “and then, especially because it is his throwing shoulder, you have to do the rehabilitation of it throwing the football. Who knows what it could have been? Could have been 8 weeks, could have been 12 weeks.”
As I’ve stated in previous posts, this is the best possible thing that could have happened to the Arizona Cardinals. Leinart has played like crap all season and Kurt Warner has looked great. Now they don’t have to worry about their future with Leinart. Instead they can focus on this season with Warner.
Incase Warner gets hurt, Arizona has signed Tim Rattay but if their lucky he’ll never see the field.
